Broadcasters

Broadcasters Association to shut down

Toronto— The Canadian Press
The Canadian Association of Broadcasters says it is planning to shut down after reaching an impasse with some of its members.
Chairman Elmer Hildebrand says the organization, which represents Canadian radio and television broadcasters, has decided close this June.
Mr. Hildebrand has been trying since December to help the CAB find common ground between broadcasters and cable operators, who have been forcing increasingly different views on the industry.
Cable companies like Rogers Communications Inc. (RCI.B-T38.170.030.08%)and Shaw Communications (SJR.B-T20.240.070.35%)hold televisions assets themselves — Citytv and Corus' specialty channels respectively — but they also have diverging views from local TV giants CTV and Canwest.
After reviewing its strategy, the organization concluded that local TV operators wouldn't be able to find a common ground with the cable companies.
Both CanWest and CTV have been pushing for a tax on cable operators like Rogers for carrying over-the-air television signals, an approach that has created a major rift between the two sides.
“It had become obvious some time ago that the three sectors, television radio and specialty (channels), all in the same room couldn't really sort out their priorities in a manner that the association could actually do their work,” Mr. Hildebrand said in an interview.
“It was my hope to be able to peel off the television and the specialty (channels) and maintain the organization as a radio-only association.”
The Canadian Association of Broadcasters was established 84 years ago to represent the radio industry and pursue common concerns, though it later branched into television broadcasting when both industries began to share similar interests.
Mr. Hildebrand says he hopes to form a new organization that solely represents radio broadcasters.
Industry reports have suggested that independent broadcasters like Channel Zero, Glassbox, APTN, OutTV and TV5 could form their own lobby group as well.

Run Away

As near as I, can gather; it is called money. Some of these companies such as telus, Bell, Rodgers, ETC and many USA telecommunication companies are charging large amounts of money for the protection of there Communication programs. They run these protection plans under the camouflage of this is my Job; and I want a lot more money to run these ports. What, has become a problem; is these large corporation are making billions/Trillions of Dollars, Euro,Yen ETC. But still continue to gouge the user; Who use these security devices. It seems our Daughter has run into this Scam perpetrated by the companies that we have held in high regard over the years. When you start getting monthly bills exceeding $500.00 dollars for cell phone use; you reign in. What, you figure was a protection plan for families. The deceit and lies that accompany these sales of these celleur programs is beyond repoach. Maybe one day these corporation shall be brought to there knees but right now it is a bedlam of sin in A very large porportion.

Power Basics

Introduction

Tower of Power ImageElectric power is a fact of life in America, a familiar miracle. Generations have come to take for granted the simple flip of a switch that turns night into day. With electric power, however, come certain precautions that are also well known. Electric power lines, household wiring, and appliances can cause serious injury from electric shock if handled improperly. Recently, a new question has emerged about the electric power we all depend on: Does it have anything to do with cancer?
Some epidemiological studies have suggested that a link may exist between exposure to power-frequency electric and magnetic fields (EMFs) and certain types of cancer, primarily leukemia and brain cancer. Other studies have found no such link. Laboratory researchers are studying how such an association is biologically possible. At this point, there is no scientific consensus about the EMF issue-except a general agreement that better information is needed. A national EMF research effort is under way, and major study results are expected in the next few years.
This article provides some answers to common questions about the possible health effects of EMFs. First, we define some basic electrical terms, describe EMFs, and discuss recent scientific studies. We then describe what the government is doing to address public concerns about EMFs. Next, we address questions people have about their own exposure to EMFs. We also tell you how to obtain more detailed information about these issues.

Electric Power Basics

Powerline TerminologyThis article uses six basic electrical terms- conductor, current, voltage, load, power, and circuit. The conductor is the wire you see between power poles or towers; it carries the electricity. Currentis the movement of electrons in the conductor. Voltage is the electric force that causes current in a conductor. Load is the electric power needed by homes and businesses. When a conductor energized with voltage is connected to a load, a circuit is completed, and current will flow.

Electric Power Facilities

There are two basic types of power lines: transmission lines and distribution lines. Transmission lines are high-voltage power lines. The high voltage allows electric power to be carried efficiently over long distances from electrical generation facilities to substations near urban areas. In the United States, most transmission lines use alternating current (AC) and operate at voltages between 50 and 765 kV (lkV or kilovolt = 1000 V).
Utilities use lower-voltage distribution lines to bring power from sub-: ;0iV stations to businesses and homes. Distribution lines operate at voltages below 50 kV. For residential customers, these levels are further reduced to 120/240 V once the power reaches its destination.
Electrical substations serve many functions in controlling and transferring power on an electrical system. Several different types of equipment may be present, depending on the functions of the particular substation. For example, transformers change the high voltages used by transmission lines to the lower voltages used by distribution lines. Circuit breakers are used to turn lines on and off.

Alternating Current and Direct Current

DC BatteryAppliances that operate either with batteries or by plugging into the household wiring usually come equipped with an AC /DC switch. If switched to AC, the appliance uses electric power that flows back and forth or "alternates" at a (U.S.) rate of 60 cycles per second (60 hertz, or Hz). If DC ("direct current") is chosen, current flows one way from the batteries to the appliance. AC fields induce weak electric currents in conducting objects, including humans; DC fields do not, unless the DC field changes in space or time relative to the person in the field. In most practical situations, a battery-operated appliance is unlikely to induce electric current in the person using the appliance. Induced currents from AC fields have been a focus for research on how EMFs could affect human health.

Scientific Principles

Q. What are EMFs?
DC Magnetic field imageA. Power lines, electrical wiring, and appliances all produce electric and magnetic fields. EMFs are invisible lines of force that surround any electrical device. Electric and magnetic fields have different properties and possibly different ways of causing biological effects. Note that while electric fields are easily shielded or weakened by conducting objects (e.g., trees, buildings, and human skin), magnetic fields are not. However, both electric and magnetic fields weaken with increasing distance from the source.
Even though electric and magnetic fields are present around appliances and power lines, more recent interest and research have focused on potential health effects of magnetic fields. This is because epidemiological studies have found associations between increased cancer risk and power-line configurations, which are thought to be surrogates for magnetic fields. No such associations have been found with measured electric fields.
Q. What is power-frequency EMF and how does it compare to other types of fields?
A. The electromagnetic spectrum (right) covers an enormous range of frequencies. These frequencies are expressed in cycles per second (i.e., Hz). Electric power (60 Hz in North America, 50 Hz in most other places) is in the extremely-low-frequency range, which includes frequencies below 3000 Hz.
The higher the frequency, the shorter the distance between one wave and the next, and the greater the amount of energy in the field. Microwave frequency fields, with wavelengths of several inches, have enough energy to cause heating in conducting material. Still higher frequencies like X-rays cause ionization-the breaking of molecular bonds, which damages genetic material. In comparison, power frequency fields have wavelengths of more than 3100 miles (5000 km) and consequently have very low energy levels that do not cause heating or ionization. However, AC fields do create weak electric currents in conducting objects, including people and animals.
Q. Doesn't the earth produce EMFs?
 A. Yes, the earth produces EMFs, mainly in the form of DC (also called static fields). Electric fields are produced by thunderstorm activity in the atmosphere. Near the ground, the DC electric field averages less than 200 volts per meter (V/m). Much stronger fields, typically about 50,000 V/m, occur directly beneath electrical storms.
Earth's magnetic currentsMagnetic fields are thought to be produced by electric currents flowing deep within the earth's molten core. The DC magnetic field averages around 500 milligauss (mG). This number is larger than typical AC electric power magnetic fields, but DC fields do not create currents in objects in the way that AC fields do.
Q. What happens when I am exposed to EMFs?
Electric Field LinesA. AC fields create weak electric currents in the bodies of people and animals. This is one reason why there is a potential for EMFs to cause biological effects. As shown on the right, currents from electric and magnetic fields are distributed differently within the body. The amount of this current, even if you are directly beneath a large transmission line, is extremely small (millionths of an ampere). The current is too weak to penetrate cell membranes; it is present mostly between the cells.
Magnetic Field LinesCurrents from 60-Hz EMFs are weaker than natural currents in the body, such as those from the electrical activity of the brain and heart. Some scientists argue that it is therefore impossible for EMFs to have any important effects. Other scientists argue that, just as a trained ear can pick up a familiar voice or cry in a crowd, so a cell may respond to induced current as a signal, lower in intensity yet detectable even through the background "noise" of the body's natural currents. Numerous laboratory studies have shown that biological effects can be caused by exposure to EMFs (see Biological Studies). In most cases, however, it is not clear how EMFs actually produce these demonstrated effects.
Strong electric fields, such as those found beneath large transmission lines, can cause hair on your exposed head or arms to vibrate slightly at 60 Hz. This is felt by some people as a tingling sensation. EMFs from transmission lines can also in some circumstances cause nuisance shocks from voltages created by EMFs on objects like ungrounded metal fences.

Medicine Hat News
The link between the provincial electrical grid and the City of Medicine Hat could be in store for a needed upgrade.
On Feb. 6, Council passed in first reading two new debenture bylaws worth a total of $4.74 million.
One involves changing over the 25-year-old 69 kilovolt transmission system to a 138 kilovolt system. The current system is at capacity, reads the bylaw, and without the change low voltage and brown outs will occur at peak hours.
The more costly of the two would relocate the major tie that connects the city's power plant to the city and the Alberta Interconnected Electric System at a cost of $3.24 million.
The rationale behind the move is that if there was a major accident, such as a fire, at the location, the local grid would be cut off from both the province and the local power plant. The result would be a total blackout.
To do both projects at the same time minimizes the cost, according to provided information.
Both bylaws are expected to come up again before council later this month.

WestJet's employees have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a regional airline and the aircraft they are planning to purchase are capable of flying out of Medicine Hat Regional Airport (MHRA).
"There's absolutely no problem with the existing runway," said Jeff Huntas, airport manager for MHRA.
WestJet is not revealing yet which cities will be part of the regional airline's schedule but confirmed the Hat's existing runway does not  pose a problem for the aircraft they plan to use.
Exactly when WestJet will announce the cities that are to be included in the new routes is not known.
"What we can say to Medicine Hat is that we hear you," said Robert Palmer spokesperson for WestJet. "You are one of many communities across Canada who has let us know, in no uncertain terms, that you are interested in WestJet's service, not only on this occasion but in previous years as well."
In determining the routes WestJet will consider the size of the community and surrounding area, the airport and its amenities, the local economy and whether there are any large industries with many employees, the propensity of people there to travel, what is there history on previous air service and whether they like it and used it, explained Palmer.
WestJet plans to launch the regional airline in 2013 and is now looking at the purchase of aircraft. They will be issuing an RFP to Bombardier for Q400 NextGen and ATR for the ATR 72-600 which seat 70 to 75 passengers.
These are airplanes currently flying out of the Toronto Island Airport with a runway that is only 4,000 ft long compared to Medicine Hat's 5,000 ft runway, said Huntas.
"They're actually very good short field aircraft."
What will pose a bigger challenge at MHRA, if on the WestJet route, are facilities including to handle the additional aircraft and passengers.
"We would need expansion of the terminal and facilities," said Huntas. "We have requested funding under the current budget."
There are no blueprints yet for an expanded terminal. Huntas says MHRA would be able to accommodate the increased traffic in the short term if an expansion was still under construction when WestJet begins its service.
WestJet will need additional pilots and flight attendants for the regional airlines and feel their reputation will assist in acquiring the right people, said Palmer.
"We have a lot of very good people who want to work for us," said Palmer.
MHRAs existing runway is hampering the Hat's ability to provide a base for military aircraft. BATUS and other military troops heading to CFB Suffield are flying into Calgary and using road transport to Suffield.
Huntas says there is also a lack of service support in terms of hangars, maintenance facilities and airport servicing.
"The runway is one aspect of it," said Huntas. "It's a very costly endeavour to put that infrastructure in place for a limited number of flights per year."
In the past Air North flew three 737's, which are capable of carrying 115 passengers, out of Medicine Hat carrying military troops who'd been at Suffield. The load was reduced in terms of passengers and fuel to facilitate the 5,000 ft runway.
The City's strategic master plan for MHRA in 2006 indicated the runway length would be sufficient for the next 20 years. Huntas says if there was the right incentive though he could see the city lengthening the runway before then.
"In aviation in particular, timely response to opportunity is critical if you are going to achieve success," said Huntas. "The City recognizes that."

The Word Tithe

What Does God's Word Say About The Tithe?
By Pastor Eddie Cude
What is the tithe? It is the "gateway for the believer into the covenant of blessings." In the Hebrew "maaser" or "maasrah," is translated tenth, or tenth part, and in Greek "apodekatoo" and in both, it means a payment or giving or receiving of the tenth.

The tithe is that tenth of our income that we give to God, which enables Him to move on our behalf in the area of blessings. The Bible records numerous accounts of man tithing to God. God is the creator of everything that exists. He owns everything and we are simply stewards of what we have been entrusted with. The tithe principle is this; "He gives unto us, we give back to Him one-tenth of all that He has blessed us with."
Abraham tithed unto Melchizedek, Isaac tithed, His son Jacob and many others also even before the law was given. Many Christians do not tithe because they have been taught that they are not under the law, but under grace. While this is a true statement, God did not institute the tithe to bring us under the law, but to get blessings to His children. Abraham tithed before the law, and God blessed him supernaturally. We're under grace that we might establish the law; not turn from it. Jesus said that He didn't come to do away with the law, but to fulfill it. Because He fulfilled it, we are to establish it. His Words are forever settled in heaven, therefore we establish His Words upon the earth.

Matthew 5:17-19: "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven."
Tithing According to the Law as Given by Moses

Leviticus 27:30 "And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S: it is holy unto the LORD."
This scripture states that all the tithe, whether it be seed of the land, fruit of the tree, or one tenth of all that you earn, is holy unto the Lord. Deuteronomy 14:22-29 states that one-tenth of all that comes into your possession, belongs to God. This was God's plan to instruct His people as to the way of blessings that He had for them. God is a multiplier by nature, and He could not multiply that which was not entrusted to Him. When the children of Israel were obedient to give back to God that which was His, increase was guaranteed. Scripture states, It's better to be obedient than to sacrifice. When the children of Israel were obedient, blessings came; when they were disobedient, they had to sacrifice. Many Christians today are wanting God to honor the covenant that He has with His children, but disobedient children cannot receive the same reward as the obedient.

1 Samuel 15:22: "And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams."
The strongest chain is only as strong as its weakest link. When we fail to tithe, we become that weak link. Statistics show that approximately 20% of Christians tithe. That means, 80% of Christendom is not in covenant with their God, but are like beggars and thieves looking for handouts and what they can steal from Him.
I have said many times, it would be better to rob the First National Bank than to rob the bank of Heaven. I'm sure most Christians don't see it this way, because most Christians steal from God. Malachi 3:8 asks the question "Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation."
The Old Testament records two other tithes; one tithe was called the "festival tithe," when they came to Jerusalem once every three years for fellowship. The expense for the festival, (travel, food, etc.) was taken from this tithe. The third tithe was given in the third year and was a tithe holy unto the Lord. It was a tithe of almsgiving for the poor and needy. All of these tithes were brought to the storehouse, and the priest oversaw the distribution of same. The first tithe was for the upkeep of the priests, since they had no inheritance. All of their income and portion was to be given to them by God's people. This tithe in and of itself, is not considered an offering. It is the minimum requirement for all of God's people.
The reason God instituted the second and the third tithe through Moses, was that His children needed to give above and beyond this tithe. It is these tithes that God is referring to in Malachi 3:8 where His people have robbed Him in tithes and offerings. In verse 10 of Malachi 3, you will notice that it states "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."
I am convinced that when people see the tithe as an instrument of blessing they will not be looking for a way to give less, but a way to give more. God will help them so that they can be generous on every occasion.
Tithing Establishes the Law
Tithing after the law does not do away with the law, but establishes it. Are you honestly blessed to where you can give generously on every occasion? Or are you like so many that can't give the way they would like to be able to? I've come to the knowledge that most Christians are looking for the truth, so they can be set free. Just because you're a child of God, does not mean you are a "mature" son of God. A mature son or daughter of God will not be found robbing "daddy" God.

Revelation 3:18 gives us good counsel on how to re-establish right covenant with the Lord. Jesus' advice to those of us who have become lukewarm is to buy from Him gold that's been refined in the fire. He tells us to do this so that the shame of our nakedness will not be revealed.

Revelation 3:18: "I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see."
How do we buy gold from the Lord?

Hebrews 1:7 states that His ministers are as "flames of fire." In Matthew 25:9, Jesus makes a statement concerning the five foolish virgins to go and buy from those who sell. What they needed to buy was oil. Oil symbolizes the Spirit. Those who are in the five-fold ministry (apostles, prophets, pastors, evangelists and teachers) have a command from the Lord to receive tithes (Hebrews 7). These tithes are not given, but paid, because the tithe belongs to the Lord and according to Malachi 3:10 we are to bring those tithes to the storehouse and the storehouse is where we are being fed spiritually, so we are to give where we are being fed.  Malachi 3:3 states that the Lord will sit as a refiner, purifying the sons of Levi (those in the ministry) purging them as gold and silver, that they may offer to the Lord an offering in righteousness. I repeat, Jesus did not come to do away with law, but to fulfill it. Our job is to establish it.
There are those who say that the tithe is not covered in the New Testament, but in Hebrews 5, 6 and 7, one of the main subjects spoken of is the tithe--who receives it and how to become mature through paying it. In Hebrews 5:11-14 it states "...that you've become dull of hearing and that you should be teaching the first principles, but instead you have need of milk, and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the Word of righteousness, for he is a baby." This is preceded by the statement that Christ himself has become High Priest after the order of Melchizedek. In Chapter 6, it goes on to state that once you have been enlightened and tasted the heavenly gift--once you have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good Word of God--if you still fall away it is impossible to be renewed again to repentance, seeing that you crucify again for yourselves the Son of God and put Him to an open shame.
What is this good Word of God? This Word is "rhema" which means, the spoken or revealed Word of God. His Word has been revealed to you concerning Jesus as High Priest after the order of Melchizedek, meaning that Jesus has become High Priest over the tithe, (and your life) forever (vs. 20). Chapter 6 further states (vs. 9-19), that God blessed Abraham by saying "With blessings, I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you." He also promised immutability (unchangeableness) of His counsel and confirmed it by swearing an oath that by these unchangeable things, we might have strong consolation and lay hold of the hope set before us. Verse 19 states that this hope we have is an anchor for our soul (mind), both sure and steadfast. I am convinced these two unchangeable things are both God's promise to bless us and our promise to tithe back to Him. Chapter 7 states in verse 8, "Here mortal men receive tithes, but there He receives them of whom it is witnessed, that He lives."
Chapters 5-7 deals with the ministry of Melchizedek and that Jesus is the priest forever according to Melchizedek. We know Abraham gave tithes of all that he possessed. We know in the Law of Moses, tithes were commanded. After the Law, Hebrews states that Jesus is the Lord, not just of the past, not just of the present, but forever. Hallelujah! He is the Lord of the tithe, forever.
Seeing that Jesus is the Lord of the tithe, is He our lord? If He is, there should be no question that we tithe unto Him. I can just hear someone saying, " If Jesus was my Pastor, I would tithe," but Hebrews 7:8 states "that men (subject to death) receive tithes on this side; but on the other side, Jesus Himself receives them." Why should we look for ways to excuse us from what we know we should be doing? Let's be about establishing and not doing away with His Words. The tithe was, and is and shall ever be holy unto the Lord.
